STARS in College WK 3 Recap: Mayah & Conteh Shine

PHILADELPHIA, PA - September 16, 2013 -  Defender Mohammed Mayah scored in two successive games for the Manor Blue Jays while Mohamed Conteh had a goal and two assists for the New Jersey City Gothic Knights as several Junior Lone Star FC players were in action for their respective colleges in Week Three.

There were some mixed results for Junior Lone Star FC's players who participated with their various colleges in Week Two around the nation:


NJCAA DIVISION I
Deron Joe and the Illinois Central College Cougars extended their winning streak to five wins after an easy 3-0 home win against Illinois Wesleyan University JV on Friday, September 13th. The Cougars (5-2-0, 0-0-0 MWAC) will host Danville Area CC in a non-conference match on Monday, September 16th at 4:00 PM before travelling to Heartland CC for a conference match on Wednesday, September 18th at 7:00 PM.


NCAA DIVISION II
Defender Samuel Fahnboto's Wilmington University Wildcats had two wins and a loss in Week Two. They started the week with a 3-0 home win over conference opponents Felician College on Tuesday, September 9th before losing 1-3 at LIU Post in a non-conference match on Thursday, September 12th; however, they bounced back with a 0-1 win at the University of Bridgeport on Saturday, September 14th. The Wildcats (3-1-0, 1-0-0 CACC) will play another three games in Week Three: at home against Millersville University on Tuesday, September 17th at 4:00 PM; away to Holy Family University on Thursday, September 19th at 4:00 PM; and away to Concordia University on Saturday, September 21st at 2:30 PM. Both matches at Holy Family and Concordia are conference matches.

Forward Siafa Dempster's Holy Family University Tigers lost  4-0 at Millersville University on Wednesday, September 11th before winning their first match of the season 2-1 in a conference game at home to Concordia University on Saturday, September 14th. The Tigers (1-2-1 overall, 1-0-0 CACC) will host Wilmington University on Thursday, September 19th at 4:00 PM before travelling to Bloomfield College on Saturday, September 21st at 1:00 PM. Both matches against Wilmington University and Bloomfield College are conference matches.


NCAA DIVISION III
Mohamed Conteh had an amazing week after he put up a man-of-the-match performance in the New Jersey City University Gothic Knights' 6-1 thrashing of Baruch College in a non-conference game on Wednesday, September 11th. Conteh started the onslaught with an assist for the first goal, he then scored his second goal of the season to put the Gothic Knights ahead 2-0, before setting up the third goal to cap an exceptional first half.  The Gothic Knights (3-3-0 overall, 0-0-0 NJAC) will now travel to William Patterson University on Saturday, September 21st at 1:00 PM for their conference opener. 

T-Ben Donnie and the Neumann University Knights struggled in a 1-1 tie at Wesley College on Saturday, September 14th. Donnie started and Tahirou Kanneh came on as a substitute; however, Karmo Ballah and Abu Donzo were not involved.  The Knights (2-1-2 overall, 0-0-0 CSAC) will be on the road for two non-conference matches this week: at Elizabethtown College on Wednesday, September 18th at 7:00 PM and at York College on Saturday, September 21st at 2:00 PM. 

Defender Mohammed Konneh and the Cabrini College Cavaliers are without a win so far this season and they are now on a five-game losing streak after losing two matches at home last week: L 1-2 to DeSales University on Wednesday, September 11th and L 0-1 to Eastern University on Saturday, September 14th. Konneh and the Cavaliers (0-5-2 overall, 0-0-0 CSAC) will be hoping to get their first win of the season when they travel to Valley Forge Christian Academy in a non-conference game on Wednesday, September 18th at 4:00 PM.

Midfielder Ansu Corneh is still finding collegiate soccer life difficult with the Rosemont College Ravens who lost all two games in Week Three (L 5-0 away to Haverford College on Thursday, September 12th and L 3-0 at Ursinus College on Saturday, September 14th). Corneh, who started in all two of those matches, will be hoping to lead the Ravens (1-5-0 overall, 0-0-0 CSAC) to winning ways as they host Widener University on Wednesday, September 18th at 4:00 PM in a non-conference match.

After losing 1-0 at Swarthmore College on Tuesday, September 10th, Defender Sumo Yarkpawolo's Widener University Pride found things easy in their 7-0 home win against D'Youville University on Saturday, September 14th with Yarkpawolo giving the assist for the sixth goal. The Pride (3-3-1 overall, 0-0-0 MAC) will travel to Rosemont College on Wednesday, September 18th at 4:00 PM before hosting Gwynedd-Mercy College on Saturday, September 21st at 4:00 PM. Both matches are non-conference games.

Midfielder Avis McGill and the Penn State Berks Nittany Lions are still without a single point this season after losing three successive matches in Week Three: L 3-0at Lancaster Bible College on Monday, September 9th in a conference match; L 1-6 to Marymount University on Wednesday, September 11th in a non-conference match; and, L 0-6 to Goucher College on Saturday, September 14th in a non-conference match. The Berks Nittany Lions (0-4-0 overall, 0-1-0 NEAC)will travel to Gwynedd-Mercy College for a non-conference match on Tuesday, September 17th at 4:00 PM before travelling to Penn State Abington for a conference match on Saturday, September 21st at 12:00 noon. 

Forward Guy Sikpa and the Penn State Abington Nittany Lions had their second loss of the season at Wesley College (L 1-0) on Wednesday, September 11th. The Abington Nittany Lions (3-2-0 overall, 0-0-0 NEAC) will host Penn State Berks in a conference match on Saturday, September 21st at 12:00 noon before hosting Valley Forge Christian Academy in a non-conference match on Sunday, September 22nd at 1:30 PM.


NJCAA DIVISION III
Defender Mohammed Mayah continues his fine run of form with two goals in two successive matches for the Manor College Blue Jays. Mayah scored the second goal in the Blue Jays' 1-3 win at Essex County College on Tuesday, September 10th before following that with another goal in the Blue Jays' 3-0 win at home to conference opponents Delaware County CC. Mayah now has three goals in five games for the Blue Jays while forward Bill Jarwee have two goals and three assists in four matches for the Blue Jays who are unbeaten and are on a five-game winning streak. The Blue Jays (5-0-0 overall, 4-0-0 EPAC) will host Montgomery County CC on Tuesday, September 17th at 3:30 PM before travelling to both Camden County College and Lehigh Carbon CC on Thursday, September 19th at 3:30 PM and Saturday, September 21st at 1:00 PM, respectively.


USCAA
Midfielder Teddy Akoi and the Penn State-Greater Allegheny Nittany Lions came away from Westmoreland County CC with a 0-1 win on Thursday, September 12th. The PSU Greater Alleghany Nittany Lions (2-2-0 overall, 1-1-0 PSUAC) will still be on the road this week for two matches: at Penn State- Mont. Alto in a conference match on Wednesday, September 18th at 4:00 PM and at Thiel College on Saturday, September 21st at 6:00 PM.
